Chapter 2 Chapter 4 Chapter 6

CHAPTER 1

1 Paule an Apostle of Iesu Christe by the wyll of God. To şe Saynctes whiche are at Ephesus, & to them whiche beleue on Iesus Christe.
2 Grace be wyth you, and peace from God oure father, and from the Lorde Iesus Christe.
3 Blessed be God the father of oure Lorde Iesus Christe, which hath blessed vs wyth all maner of spyrytuall blessynges in heauenlye thynges by Christe,
4 accordynge as he had chosen vs in hym, before the foundacyon of the worlde was layde that we shoulde be Saynctes and wythoute blame before hym thorow loue.
5 And ordeyned vs before thorowe Iesus Christe to be heyres vnto hym selfe, according to the pleasure of hys wyll,
6 to the prayse of şe glory of hys grace, wherewith he hath made vs accepted in the beloued.
7 By whome we haue redemption thorowe hys bloude, euen the forgeuenes of synnes accordyng to the ryches of hys grace
8 he shedde on vs aboundauntlye in all wysdome & perseueraunce.
9 And hath opened vnto vs the misterye of hys wyll accordyng to hys pleasure and purposed the same in hym selfe
10 to haue it declared, when the tyme were full come, şt all thynges, bothe the thynges whiche are in heauen, & also thynges whiche are in earth shoulde be gathered together euen in Christ:
11 that is to saye in hym in whome we are made heyres, and were thereto predestinate accordynge to the purpose of hym which worketh all thynges after the purpose of hys owne wyll,
12 that we whiche before beleued in Christ shoulde be vnto the prayse of hys glorye.
13 In whome also ye (after that ye hearde the worde of trueth. I meane the Gospel of your saluacyon, wherein ye beleued) were sealed with the holye spiryte of promes,
14 whiche is şe ernest of oure inheritaunce, to redeme the purchased possessyon, and that vnto the lande of hys glorye.
15 Wherfore euen I (after that I hearde of the faythe whiche ye haue in the Lorde Iesu, and loue vnto all the saynctes)
16 cease not to geue thankes for you: makyng mencyon of you in my prayers,
17 that the God of oure Lord Iesus Christ, and the father of glorye myghte geue vnto you the spyryte of wysdome, and open to you the knoweledge of hym selfe,
18 and lyghten the eyes of youre myndes that ye myght knowe what that hope is, where vnto he hath called you, and what the ryches of hys gloryous inheritaunce is vpon the saynctes,
19 and what is the excedynge greatnes of hys power to vs warde, whiche beleue accordynge to the workynge of that hys myghtye power,
20 whiche he wrought in Christe, when he raysed hym from the dead, and set hym on hys ryght hande in heauenly thynges,
21 aboue all rule, power, and myghte, and domynyon, and aboue all names that are named, not in thys worlde onely, but also in the worlde to come,
22 and hath put all thynges, vnder hys fete, and hath made hym aboue all thynges the heade of the congregacyon,
23 which is hys bodye, and the fulnes of hym that fylleth all in all thynges.

CHAPTER 2

1 And you hath he quickened also that were deade in treaspas & synne,
2 in the whiche in time passed, yet walked accordynge to the course of thys worlde, & after the gouerner that ruleth in the ayer, the spyrite that nowe worketh in the chyldren of vnbelefe,
3 amonge whiche we also had our conuersation in tyme paste, in the lustes of oure fleshe, and fulfylled the wyll of the fleshe and of the mynde, and were naturallye the chyldren of wrath, euen as well as other.
4 But God whiche is ryche in mercye thorow his great loue wherewith he loued vs,
5 euen when we were dead by synne, hath quickened vs together in Christ (for by grace are ye saued)
6 and hath rayseth vs vp together, & made vs sitte together in heauenly thynges thorowe Christ Iesu,
7 for to shewe in tymes to come the excedinge riches of hys grace in kyndnes to vswarde in Christe Iesus.
8 For by grace are ye made safe thorowe fayth, and that not of youre selues. For it is the gyfte of God,
9 and commeth not of workes, leste anye man should bost him selfe.
10 For we are his worckmanshyp created in Christe Iesus to good workes, vnto the, whyche God ordeined vs before, şt we should walke in them.
11 Wherfore remember that ye, beynge in tyme passed Gentyles in fleshe, and were called vncircumcision to them whiche are called circumcision in the fleshe, whiche circumcision is made by handes:
12 Remember I saye, that ye were at that tyme without Christe, and were reputed aliantes from the commen welth of Israel, and were straungers from the testamentes of promes, and had no hope and were wythout God in thys worlde.
13 But nowe in Christ Iesu, ye whych a whyle ago were farre of are made nygh by the bloud of Christe.
14 For he is our peace, whiche had made of both one, and hath broken doune the wall şt was a stop betwene vs,
15 and hath also put awaye thorowe hys fleshe the cause of hatred (that is to saye, the lawe of commaundementes contayned in the lawe written) for to make of twayne one newe man in hym selfe, so makinge peace:
16 and to reconcile both vnto God in one body thorowe his crosse, and slew hatered therby:
17 and came and preached peace to you, whiche were a farre of, and to them that were nygh.
18 For thorowe hym we both haue an open waye in, in one spyrite vnto the father.
19 Nowe therfore ye are no more straungers and foreners, but citizyns with the sainctes, and of the houshold of God:
20 and are buylt vpon the foundation of the Apostles & Prophetes, Iesus Christe beynge the head corner stone,
21 in whom euerye buyldinge coupled together, groweth vnto an holye temple in the Lorde,
22 in whom ye also are buylde together, and made an habitacion for god in the spyryte.

CHAPTER 3

1 For this cause I Paule am in the bondes of Iesu Christ for your sakes, whiche are heathen.
2 Yf ye haue hearde of the ministration of the grace of God, whiche is geuen me to youward.
3 For by reuelation shewed he this misterie to me as I wrote aboue in fewe wordes,
4 wherby when ye reade, ye maye knowe myne vnderstandinge in the misterye of Christe.
5 Which mysterye in tymes passed was not opened to the sonnes of men, as it is now declared vnto his holye Apostles and Prophetes by the spyrite
6 that the Gentyles shoulde be inheritours also, and of the same bodye, and partakers of hys promes that is in Christe, by the meanes of the Gospell,
7 wherof I am made a mynyster, by the gyfte of the grace of God geuen vnto me thorowe the workynge of hys power.
8 Vnto me the leaste of all sainctes is this grace geuen, that I shoulde preache amonge the Gentyls the vnsearcheable ryches of Christe,
9 and to make all men se what the fellowshyp of the mysterye is, whiche from the beginninge of the worlde hath bene hyde in God, whiche made all thinges thorowe Iesus Christ,
10 to the entente, that nowe vnto the rulers & powers in heauen myght be knowen (by the congregation) the manifolde wysedome of God,
11 accordinge to the eternal purpose, whiche he purposed in Christe Iesu our Lorde,
12 by whom we are bold to drawe nighe in that truste, whyche we haue by fayth on on him.
13 Wherfore I desyre that ye faynte not because of my tribulations for your sakes, whiche is your prayse.
14 For this cause I bowe my knees vnto the father of oure Lorde Iesus Christ,
15 whiche is father ouer all that is called father, in heauen and in earth,
16 that he woulde graunt you accordinge to the ryches of his glorie, that ye maye be strengthed wyth mighte by his spirite in the inner man,
17 that Christ may dwell in your hertes by fayth, that ye beinge roted and grounded in loue,
18 might be able to comprehende wyth all sainctes, what is şe bread and length, deapt and height:
19 and to knowe, what is the loue of Christe, whyche loue passeth knowledge, that ye myghte be fulfylled wyth all maner of fulnes, whiche cometh of God.
20 Vnto hym that is able to do excedinge aboundantly aboue all şt we are or thinke, accordinge to the power that worketh in vs,
21 be prayse in the congregation by Iesus Christe, thorowout al generacions, from time to time. Amen.

CHAPTER 4

1 I therfore whiche am in boundes for the Lordes sake, exhorte you, that ye walke worthy of the vocation wherwyth ye are called,
2 in all humblenes of mynde, and mekenes, and longe sufferynge, forbearinge one another thorowe loue,
3 and şt ye be diligente to kepe the vnitie of the spirite in the bounde of peace,
4 beynge one bodye, & one spirite, euen as ye are called in one hope of your callinge.
5 Let there be but one Lorde, one fayth, one baptysme,
6 one God and father of all, whiche is aboue al thorowe all and in you all.
7 Vnto euery one of vs is geuen grace accordinge to the measure of şe gyfte of Christ.
8 Wherfore he sayth: He is gone vp on hye, and had led captiuitie captiue, and hath geuen gyftes vnto men.
9 That he ascended, what meaneth it, but that he also descended fyrste into the loweste parties of the earth?
10 He that descended, is euen the same also that ascended vp euen aboue all heauens, to fulfyll al thinges.
11 And the very same made some Apostles, some Prophetes, some Euangelistes, some sheperdes, some teachers,
12 that the saynctes myghte haue all thinges necessarye to worke and ministre wythal, to the edifiynge of the bodye of Christ,
13 tyl we euerie one (in the vnitie of fayth, and knowledge of the sonne of God) growe vp into a perfecte man, after the measure of age of the fulnes of Christ.
14 That we henceforth be no more chyldren, waueringe and caryed wyth euerye wynde of doctryne, by the wylynes of men and craftynes, wherby they laye awayte for vs to deceyue vs.
15 But let vs folowe the truethe in loue, and in al thinges growe in him which is şe head, that is to saye, Christe,
16 in whom all the body is coupled and knyt together in euerye ioynt, wherwyth one ministreth to another (accordynge to the operation, as euerye parte hath hys measure) and encreaseth the bodye, vnto the edifiynge of it selfe in loue.
17 Thys I saye therfore and testifye in the Lorde, that ye henceforth walke not as other Gentyles walke, in vanitie of theyr mynde,
18 blynded in theyr vnderstandynge, beynge straungers from the lyfe whiche is in God thorowe the ignoraunce that is in them, because of the blyndnes of theyr hertes:
19 whiche beyng paste repentaunce, haue geuen them selues vnto wantonnes, to worke al maner of vncleanes, euen wyth gredines.
20 But ye haue not so learned Christ,
21 yf so be ye haue heard of hym, and are taughte of hym, euen as the trueth is in Iesu.
22 So then as concernyng the conuersacyon in tyme past, laye from you that olde man, whyche is corrupte thorowe the deceyueable lustes
23 and be ye renued in the spyrite of your mindes,
24 and put on that newe man, whyche after the Image of God is shapen in ryghteousnes & true holynes.
25 Wherfore put awaye lyinge, and speake euerye man trueth vnto hys neyghboure, for as muche as we are membres one of another.
26 Be angrye, but synne not, let not the sunne go doune vpon your wrath,
27 neyther geue place vnto the backebyter.
28 Let hym that stole, steale no more, but let hym rather laboure wyth his handes some good thynge, that he maye haue to geue vnto hym that nedeth.
29 Let no fylthy communication procede out of your mouthes: but that whiche is good to edefye wyth all, when nede is: that it maye haue fauoure with the hearers.
30 And greue not the holye spirite of God, by whom ye are sealed vnto the daye of redemption.
31 Let all bitternes, fearsnes and wrath, roring and cursed speakinge, be put awaye from you, wyth all maliciousnes.
32 Be ye courteouse one to another and mercyfull, forgeuynge one another, euen as God for Christes sake forgaue you.

CHAPTER 5

1 Be ye folowers of God as deare children,
2 and walke in loue euen as Christe loued vs, and gaue hym selfe for vs, an offeringe, and a sacrifice of a swete sauoure to God.
3 So that fornicacion and vncleanes, or couetousnes be not ones named amonge you, as it becommeth sainctes:
4 neyther fylthynes, neyther folyshe talkinge, neither gestinge whiche are not comely: but rather geuinge of thankes.
5 For this ye knowe, that no whormonger, other vncleane persone, or couetous person, whyche is the worshypper of Images, hath anye inheritaunce in the kyngdome of Christe and of God.
6 Let no man deceiue you with vayne wordes. For thorowe suche thinges commeth the wrath of God vpon the children of vnbelefe.
7 Be not therfore companions wyth them.
8 Ye were ones darckenes, but are nowe lyghte in the Lorde. Walke as chyldren of lyghte.
9 For the fruite of the spirite is in all goodnes, ryghtuousnes and trueth.
10 Accepte that whiche is pleasinge to the Lorde:
11 and haue no fellowshyp wyth the vnfruitfull workes of darckenes: but rather rebuke them.
12 For it is shame euen to name those thinges, whiche are done of them in secrete:
13 but all thinges, when they are rebuked of the lyghte are manifeste. For what soeuer is manifeste, that same is lyght.
14 Wherfore he sayth: awake thou that slepest, and stand vp from death, and Christ shall geue the lyght.
15 Take hede therfore that ye walke circumspectlye: not as foles, but as wyse
16 redeminge the time, for the dayes are iuel.
17 Wherfore be ye not vnwise, but vnderstande what şe wyll of the Lorde is,
18 and be not drounke wt wyne. wherin is excesse, but be fulfylled wyth şe spirite,
19 speakinge vnto your selues in Psalmes, and Hymnes, and spiritual sounges, singing and makinge melodye to the Lorde in your hertes,
20 geuinge thankes alwayes for al thinges vnto God the father, in the name of oure Lorde Iesu Christe,
21 submittinge your selues one to another in the feare of God.
22 Women submitte youre selues vnto your owne husbandes, as vnto the Lorde.
23 For the husbande is the wyues head, euen as Christe is the heade of the congregation, and şe same is the sauiour of the body.
24 Therfore as the congregation is in subieccion to Christe, lykewyse let the wyues be in subieccion to theyr husbandes in all thynges.
25 Husbandes loue youre wyues, euen as Christe loued the congregation, and gaue him selfe for it,
26 to sanctifye it, and cleansed it in the fountayne of water thorowe the worde
27 to make it vnto hym selfe a glorious congregation wythout spotte or wrinckle, or anye suche thinge: but that it shoulde be holy and wythout blame.
28 So ought men to loue theyr wyues, as their owne bodies. He that loueth hys wyfe, loueth him selfe.
29 For no man euer yet hated hys owne fleshe, but norisheth and cherisseth it euen as the Lorde doeth the congregation.
30 For we are members of his bodie, of his fleshe, and of hys bones.
31 For this cause shall a man leaue father and mother, and shall continue wyth hys wyfe, and two shalbe made one fleshe.
32 Thys is a greate secrete, but I speake betwene Christe and the congregation.
33 Neuerthelesse do ye so that euerye one of you loue his wyfe truely euen as hym selfe: And let the wyfe se that she feare her husbande.

CHAPTER 6

1 Chyldren obeye youre fathers and mothers in the Lorde: for so is it ryght.
2 Honoure thy father and mother, that is the fyrst commaundemente that hath anye promes,
3 that thou mayeste be in good estate, and liue longe on the earth.
4 And ye fathers, moue not youre children to wrath, but bringe them vp with the norter and information of the Lorde.
5 Seruauntes be obedient vnto youre carnall maisters, wyth feare and tremblinge, in singlenes of youre hertes, as vnto Christe,
6 not wyth seruice in şe eye sight, as men pleasers, but as the seruauntes of Christe, doynge the wyll of God frome the herte
7 wyth good wyll seruynge the Lorde, & not men.
8 And remembre that, whatsoeuer good thinge any man doeth, that shall he receiue agayne of the Lorde, whether he be bounde or fre.
9 And ye maisters, do euen the same thinges vnto them puttinge awaye threateninges: and remembre that euen your maister also is in heauen, neither is ther anye respect of person wyth hym.
10 Finally my brethren, be stronge in şe Lord and in the power of his myghte.
11 Put on the armoure of God, that ye maye stande stedfaste agaynste the crafty assautes of the deuyll.
12 For we wrestle not againste fleshe and bloude: but against rule, agaynst power, and againste worldlye rulers of the darckenes of thys worlde, againste spyrytuall wickednes, for heauenly thynges.
13 For thys cause take vnto you the armoure of God, that ye maye be able to resiste in the euyl daye, and stande perfect in al thinges.
14 Stande therfore, and your loynes gyrde about wyth veritie, hauinge on şe breste plate of rightuousnes,
15 and shoed with shoes prepared by the Gospel of peace.
16 Aboue all take to you the shelde of fayth, wherwith ye maye quench all şe fyrie dartes of the wycked.
17 And take the helmet of saluacion and the swerd of the spyrite, which is the word of God.
18 And praye all wayes wyth all maner prayer and supplicacion: and that in the spirite, and watch therunto with all instaunce and supplication for all sainctes,
19 and for me, that vtteraunce maye be geuen vnto me, that I maye open my mouth bloudly, to vtter the secretes of the Gospel,
20 wherof I am a messenger in boundes that therin I may speake frely, as it becommeth me to speake.
21 But that ye maye also knowe what condicion I am in and what I do. Tichicus my deare brother and faythfull mynyster in the Lorde, shal shewe you of all thinges,
22 whom I sent vnto you for the same purpose, that ye myght knowe what case I stand in, and that he myght comforte your hertes.
23 Peace be with the brethren, and loue with fayth from God the father, and from the Lorde Iesus Christe.
24 Grace be with al them whiche loue oure Lorde Iesus Christe in purenes. Amen.
