Chapter 1 Chapter 2 Chapter 3 Chapter 4 Chapter 5

CHAPTER 1

1 That whyche was from the begynninge, whyche we haue hearde, whyche we haue sene with oure eyes, which we haue loked vpon and our handes haue handeled, of the word of the lyfe.
2 For the life appeared, and we haue sene, and beare wytnes, and shewe vnto you that eternall lyfe, whyche was wyth the father, and appeared to vs.
3 That whyche we haue sene and hearde declare we vnto you, that ye maye haue felowshyp wyth vs, and that our felowshype may be wyth the father and hys sonne Iesus Christ.
4 And this wryte we vnto you that youre ioye may be ful.
5 And this is the tydinges that we haue heard of him, and declare vnto you, that God is lyghte and in him is no darckenes at al,
6 yf we saye that we haue felowshippe with him, and yet walke in darckenes, we lye, and do not the trueth,
7 but and yf we walke (in light) euen as he is in lighte, then haue we felowshyppe wyth hym, and the bloude of Iesus Christe his sonne clenseth vs from all sinne.
8 If we saye that we haue no sinne, we deceiue oure selues, and trueth is not in vs.
9 If we knowledge oure sinnes, he is faythfull and iust, to forgeue vs our sinnes, and to clense vs from al vnrightuousnes.
10 If we say we haue not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in vs.

CHAPTER 2

1 My lytle chyldren, these thinges wryte I vnto you, that ye sinne not, yf anye man synne, yet we haue an aduocate with the father, Iesus Christe, whiche is rightuouse,
2 and he it is that obtayned grace for our sinnes, not for oure sinnes onelye, but also for the synnes of al the worlde.
3 And herby we are sure that we knowe him, yf we kepe his commaundementes.
4 He that sayth I knowe him, and kepeth not his commaundementes, is a liar, and the veritie is not in him.
5 Whosoeuer kepeth his worde, in him is the loue of God, perfecte in dede. And there by knowe we that we are in him.
6 He that sayeth he abydeth in him ought to walke euen as he walked.
7 Brethren I wryte no newe commaundemente vnto you, but that olde commaundemente, which ye hearde from the beginning.
8 The olde commandement is the word, which ye heard from the beginninge. Againe a new commaundement I write vnto you, a thinge that is true in him, and also in you, for the darkenes is past, and the true light now shineth.
9 He that sayeth how that he is in the light, and yet hateth his brother, is in dackenes euen vntill this tyme.
10 He that loueth his brother, abideth in the lyghte, and there is none occasion of euill in him.
11 He that hateth his brother, is in darckenes and walketh in darckenes, and can not tell whether he goeth, because that darckenes hath blinded his eyes.
12 Babes I wryte vnto you, how that youre sinnes are forgeuen you for his names sake.
13 I wryte vnto you fathers, how that ye know him, that was from the beginninge. I wryte vnto you yong men, how that ye haue ouercome the wicked. I write to you lytel children, howe that ye knowe the father,
14 I wryte vnto you fathers, how that ye knowe him, that was from the beginninge. I wryte vnto you young men, how that ye are stronge and the word of God abyeth in you, & ye haue ouercome that wycked.
15 Se that ye loue not the world, neyther the thynges that are in the worlde. Yf anye man loue the worlde the loue of the father is not in him.
16 For all that is in the world (as the luste of the fleshe, the lust of the eyes, and the pryde of goodes) is not of the father, but of şe world.
17 And the world vanysheth away, and the lust therof, but he that fulfilleth the will of God, abideth euer.
18 Litel chyldren, it is the last time, and as ye haue hearde how that Antichriste shall come, euen nowe are there many Antichristes come alredye. Wherby we knowe that it is the last tyme.
19 They went out from vs, but they were not of vs. For yf they had bene of vs: they woulde no doubte, haue continued wyth vs. But that fortuned, that it myghte appeare, that they were not of vs.
20 And ye haue an oyntment of the holye ghost and ye knowe all thinges.
21 I wrote not vnto you, as though ye knewe not the trueth, but as though ye knewe it, and knowe also that no lye commeth of trueth.
22 Who is a liar but he that denyeth that Iesus is Christ? The same is the Antechrist that denyeth the father and the sonne.
23 Whosoeuer denyeth the sonne, the same hath not şe father.
24 Let therfore abyde in you that same, whiche ye hearde from the beginninge, shall remaine in you, ye also shal continue in the sonne, and in the father.
25 And this is the promes, that he hath promysed vs euen eternal lyfe.
26 This haue I written vnto you concerning them, that disceyue you.
27 And the anointinge, whiche ye haue receiued of him, dwelleth in you. And ye nede not that anye man teache you, but as the anointing teacheth you al thinges, and is true, and is no lye, & it is taught you, euen so byde therin.
28 And now babes abide in him, that when he shal appeare, we maye be bolde, and not be made ashamed of him at his comming:
29 If ye knowe that he is rightuous, knowe also that he whiche foloweth rightuousnes, is borne of hym.

CHAPTER 3

1 Beholde what loue şe father hath shewed on vs, that we shoulde be called şe sonnes of God. For this cause the worlde knoweth you not, because it knoweth not him.
2 Dearly beloued, now are we the sonnes of God, and yet it doeth not appeare, what we shalbe. But we knowe that when it shal appere, we shalbe like him. For we shall se him as he is.
3 And euery man that hath thys hope in him, pourgeth him selfe, euen as he is pure.
4 Whosoeuer committeth synne, committeth vnrightuousnes also, for synne is vnrightuousnes.
5 And ye knowe that he appered to take awaye oure synnes, & in him is no sinne.
6 As many as byde in him synne not, whosoeuer synneth, hath not sene him, neyther hath knowen him.
7 Babes let no man deceiue you. He that doth rightuousnes is rightuous, euen as he is righteous.
8 He that committeth sinne, is of the deuil, for the deuil sinneth sence the beginninge. For this purpose appered the sonne of God to lowse the workes of the deuil.
9 Whosoeuer is borne of God, sinneth not, for hys seed remaineth in him, and he can not sinne, because he is borne of God.
10 In this are the chyldren of God knowen, and the chyldren of the deuil. Whosoeuer doth not rightuousnes, is not of God, neyther he that loueth not his brother.
11 For this is the tidinges, that ye hearde from the beginninge, that ye should loue one anothere
12 not as Cayn, which was of the wicked & slewe his brother. And wherfore slewe he him? Because his own workes were euyll, and his brothers good.
13 Maruaile not my brethren though the worlde hate you.
14 We know that we are translated from death vnto lyfe, because we loue the brethren. He that loueth not his brother, abydeth in death.
15 Whosoeuer hateth his brother, is a man slear. And ye know şt no man slear hath eternal life abidinge in him.
16 Hereby perceyue we loue, that he gaue hys lyfe for vs, & therfore oughte we also to geue our lyues for the brethren.
17 Whosoeuer hath this worldes good, and seeth his brother haue nede, and shutteth vp his compassion from him, howe dwelleth the loue of God in hym?
18 My babes, let vs not loue in worde neyther in tonge, but wyth the dede and in veryty:
19 For therby we know that we are of the verytye, and can before him quyete oure hertes.
20 But if our hertes condempne vs, God is greater then our hertes, and knoweth all thinges.
21 Beloued, yf our hertes condempne vs not, then haue we trust to Godward,
22 and whatsoeuer we are, we shall receiue of him, because we kepe his commaundementes, and do these thinges, which are pleasyng in hys sight.
23 And this is his commaundement, that we beleue on şe name of his sonne Iesus Christ and loue one another, as he gaue commaundemente.
24 And he that kepeth hys commaundementes, dwelleth in hym and he in him, & therby we know that there abydeth in vs of the spyryte, which he gaue vs.

CHAPTER 4

1 Ye beloued, beleue not euery spirite, but proue the spirites whether they be of God, or not, for manye false prophetes are gone out into the world.
2 Hereby shall ye knowe the spyryte of God. Euerye spyrite that confesseth that Iesus Christe is come in the fleshe, is of God.
3 And euerye spyryte şt confesseth not that Iesu Christe is come in the fleshe, is not of God. And this is that spyrite of Antechrist, of whom ye haue hearde, how that he shoulde come, and euen nowe alreadye is he in the worlde.
4 Lytel chyldren, ye are of God, and haue ouercome them, for greater is he that is in you, then he that is in the world.
5 They are of the world, & therfore speake they of şe world, and the world heareth them.
6 We are of God. He that knoweth God heareth vs, he that is not of God, heareth vs not. Here by knowe we şe spyrite of verity, & the spirite of erroure.
7 Beloued, let vs loue one another, for loue commeth of god. And euery one şt loueth is borne of God, & knoweth God.
8 He that loueth not, knoweth not God: for God is loue.
9 In this appered the loue of God to vsward, because that God sent his onely begotten sonne into the world, that we myght lyue thorow him:
10 Herin is loue, not that we loued God, but that he loued vs, & sente his sonne to make agrement for our synnes.
11 Beloued yf God so loued vs we oughte also to loue one another.
12 No man hath sene God at anyetime. Yf we loue one another, god dwelleth in vs, and his loue is perfect in vs.
13 Hereby knowe we şt we dwel in him, and he in vs, because he hath geuen vs of his spyrite.
14 And we haue sene and do testifye, that the father sent the sonne, whyche is the sauyour of the world.
15 Whosoeuer confesseth, that Iesus is the sonne of God, in him dwelleth God and he in God.
16 And we haue knowen & beleued the loue that God hath to vs. God is loue, and he that dwelleth in loue, dwelleth in God, and god in hym.
17 Herin is the loue perfect in vs, that we shoulde haue trust in the daye of iudgement: For as he is, euen so are we in thys worlde.
18 There is no feare in loue, but perfecte loue casteth out all feare, for feare hath paynfulnes. He that feareth is not perfect in loue.
19 We loue him, for he loued vs fyrste.
20 Yf a man saye, I loue God, and yet hate his brother, he is a lyar. For howe can he that loueth not his brother whom he hath sene, loue god, whom he hath not sene?
21 And this commaundemente haue we of him that he which loueth God, should loue his brother also.

CHAPTER 5

1 Whosoeuer beleueth that Iesus is Christ, is borne of God. And euerye one that loueth hym whiche begat, loueth hym also whyche was begotten of hym.
2 In thys we know, that we loue the children of God, when we loue God and kepe his commaundementes.
3 This is the loue of God, that we kepe his commaundementes, and his commaundementes are not greuous.
4 For all that is borne of God, ouercommeth the world. And this is the victorye, that ouercommeth the worlde, euen oure fayeth.
5 Who is it that ouercommeth the worlde, but he which beleueth, that Iesus is the sonne of God?
6 This Iesus Christ is he that came by water and bloude, not by water onelye, but by water and bloud. And it is the spirite that beareth witnes, because the spirite is trueth.
7 (For there are thre which beare recorde in heauen, the father, the worde, and the holye Ghoste. And these thre are one.)
8 For there are thre, whiche beare recorde in earth the spyrite and water, and bloude, and these thre are one.
9 If we receyue the wytnes of men, the wytnes of God is greater. For thys is the wytnes of God, whiche he testified of his sonne.
10 He that beleueth on the sonne of God, hath the wytnes in him selfe. He that beleued not God, hath made hym a lyar, because he beleued not the recorde, that God gaue of hys sonne.
11 And thys is that recorde, howe that God hath geuen vnto vs eternal lyfe, and this lyfe is in his sonne.
12 He that hath the sonne, hath lyfe: and he that hath not the sonne of God, hath not lyfe.
13 These thinges haue I wryten vnto you, that beleue on the name of the sonne of God, that ye maye know, how that ye haue eternal lyfe, and that ye may beleue on the name of the sonne of God.
14 And this is the truste that we haue in him, that yf we axe any thinge, accordinge to hys will he heareth vs.
15 And yf we knowe that he heareth vs whatsoeuer we axe, we knowe, that we shall haue the peticyons that we desyre of hym.
16 If any man se his brother synne a synne that is not vnto death, let him axe, and he shal geue him lyfe, for them that synne not vnto death. There is a synne vnto death, for which saye I not that a man shoulde praye.
17 All vnryghtuousnes is synne, and there is sinne not vnto death.
18 We knowe that whosoeuer is borne of God, synneth not, but he that is begotten of God kepeth him selfe, and that wycked toucheth him not.
19 We knowe that we are of God, and that the world is altogether set on wyckednes.
20 We know, that the sonne of God is come, & hath geuen vs a minde to know him which is true, & we are in him, that is true thorowe his sonne Iesus Christ. This same is verye God, and eternal lyfe.
21 Babes kepe your selues from Images. Amen.
